Bat walks
We run a programme of free guided bat walks around the Island throughout the summer months (usually May to September). Check the bat events calendar for walk dates. In the winter months why not join us for other bat-related activities?
Self-guided walks
We have produced a booklet of recommended walks, with advice on how to go about finding bats on the Isle of Man. This was produced by students at Oxford Brookes University, working with the Manx Bat Group and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (now DEFA). Copies are usually available at libraries, tourist information centres and heritage sites, or choose an option below.
The seven bat walks are illustrated by colour maps and photographs. Each includes information on public transport and car parking. All walks start with a mention of places with architectural or historical interest and, where necessary, give warnings of muddy footpaths or other hazards. This practical booklet will appeal to walkers and naturalists alike as the walks can be taken in the daytime too, without the bats! The text is by the late Penny Gillman, to whose memory this booklet is dedicated.
