SUMMARY:Laxey Bat Walk - free event for International Bat Night
DESCRIPTION:The Manx Bat Group are celebrating International Bat night (Sat 27th Aug) with a walk around upper Laxey. Meeting at 8pm at Dumbell’s (Ham & Egg) Terrace car park\, the walk will set off after a brief talk on bats\, and their habits\, on the Isle of Man\, explaining the need for and use of bat detectors. Bat detectors will be loaned out for the evening by the Bat Group before setting off to visit some key locations for bats in the village\, finishing with a watch for Daubenton’s bats skimming the water surface.\nAll are welcome to this free event although children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Sensible outdoor clothing should be worn\, with good walking shoes. The walk will be brought forward to Friday night in the event of adverse weather.

SUMMARY:Silverburn Bat Walk
DESCRIPTION:The next public bat walk organized by the Manx Bat Group will be at Ballasalla on Saturday\, August 6th.\nMeeting at Rushen Abbey car  park at 9 pm (21:00 hrs)\, the walk will follow the Silverburn river to Silverdale and back\, hoping to see and hear Daubenton’s bats feeding over the river\, as well as woodland foraging species in the National Glen.\nFollowing an introductory talk on Manx bats and their habits\, participants will be able to listen out for bat calls on bat detectors loaned by the Group\, with Bat Group members on hand to explain which species are being detected\, and why.\nManx Bat Group public bat walks are free of charge and all ages are welcome\, although children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Good outdoor walking shoes are recommended.
